The Secret Language of Your Soul

“The privilege of a lifetime is to become who you truly are.” Carl Jung

To me, there is nothing more exciting and powerful than discovering who you truly are through the eyes of your Soul. Through this lens, there is a connection to your purpose, passion and power. These essentials are what give us a sense of authenticity, meaning and value in the world. Not to mention a way forward.

Decoding the Soul’s sacred language in myself and for others is how I honour my purpose in the world. This evolution began in childhood with the intuitive ability to see without seeing. It showed up in myriad synchronistic ways from knowing who would phone to seeing premature death. As a child, I didn’t always want the responsibility of sacred seeing. I didn’t understand it and neither did anyone else and that made me feel like an “other.” Like most young people I wanted to fit in and be “normal,” but my Soul’s journey had other plans for me.

Part of those plans included a lifetime of migraines. While a migraine attack (plural migraines) is both extremely painful and debilitating, I have discovered it also offers all kinds of Soulful wisdom. While lying alone in the dark, there is time to come to deeper knowledge and understanding of the Soul’s language. There is time to notice, listen, reflect, contemplate and be with the formative powerhouses of thoughts, attitudes, beliefs, emotions, physical symptoms, dreams and subtle body energy. Migraine doesn’t ask for a Soulful life it demands it.

In 50 years of living with migraine, I have experienced just under 5 years of solitary confinement due to attacks. The hard NO a migraine gives to outer life is met with an equally hard YES to Soul life. By becoming an observer of my own life at a subtle body level, I began to see nuanced patterns of thought, action and circumstance that gave rise to an attack AND how the attack provided Soul connection through the imposed silence, stillness and solitude.

With decades of refinement, I eventually learned that by embracing my Soul first and maintaining this balance, I could dramatically reduce the severity, duration and frequency of migraine attacks.

In a way, migraines have been my cheat sheet for Soul connection because without their dramatic and debilitating pain, I would not have been motivated to do the inner work. Soul work is rarely glamourized, though it is the foundational life force for our purpose, power and passion in the world as well as most everything we deem valuable.

By paying attention to the rise and fall of subtle body energy coming into my life and my body through dreams, relationships, life events and circumstances I noticed and recorded consistent and measurable Soulful energetic patterns that I still use for professional reference. The more data I collected the more I began to see, understand and trust that migraines served a bigger purpose not only in my life but on a global scale. I saw that migraine was a placeholder for Soul connection. I also realized that migraines and meditation were taking me to the same soulful inner places but migraines forced the process through pain and loss, while meditation invited the process gently. I wanted a lot more of that!

The deeper my meditation practice grew, paradoxically the more value I saw in the soulful wisdom of migraines.

Both were gifting me the soulful opportunities that come with inner stillness, silence, spaciousness and centered presence. By confronting my natural egoic resistance to these life-giving states of being, I have been able to receive their many benefits. The more I experienced these well-founded and peer-reviewed benefits resulting in reduced pain, improved sleep quality, nervous system regulation, focused attention, reduced blood pressure and regulated mood, the more I realized that these Soulful states were not only available and valuable to me but to many other people. That was an aha moment.

How Does the Soul Communicate With Us?

In a world driven by speed, logic, and surface appearances, it’s easy to forget that beneath the noise and distraction, something ancient and subtle is always speaking to us. The Soul is a specific energetic template that brings formation to your life through synchronistic events, inspirational influence, nature, dreams and your subtle body physiology. We meet more of it through meditative moments of silence, stillness, solitude and centered presence. The Soul acts like an energetic bridge between your ego and your psyche and your psyche and your whole Self. The more we relate to her, the more she reveals to us. She meets us in symbols, sensations and stories. Without engaging the life force of the Soul a person’s authentic purpose, passion and power remain just out of reach.

🌙 1. Dreams — The Soul’s Nightly Communication

Dreams are perhaps the most ubiquitous language of the Soul. They offer symbols, archetypes, images, and emotional truths that our waking mind may resist. Each scene the Soul plays for us represents an energetic life paradigm rich in meaning, foreshadowing and growth. Lucid dreaming allows us to engage with these Soulful dream energies as they are occurring.

Carl Jung called the dream a “small hidden door in the deepest and most intimate sanctum of the soul.” Whether you’re dreaming of vast oceans, flying, being chased, or reuniting with long-lost figures, each dream scene holds energetic messages encoded in metaphor. I have been engaging with my Soul in life through the dream world for several decades.

✨ 2. Synchronicity — The Soul’s Timing

Have you ever thought of someone and they immediately text you? Or had a random phrase echo in your mind, only to find it on the next page you open? How about naming your business Heart Centered Life and then having hearts find you every day from then on for a decade? I’ve discovered perfect hearts in the mud, in the clouds, preparing food, as rocks, moss, as dried tea in the bottom of my mug, in the drain, sweeping up paint chips, left in the snowy driveway as our vehicles drove off, as glue from an amazon package, ripped paper on the floor, a torn plastic bag, the shape of leaves and more. Ever since I chose Heart Centered Life to be my business name I’ve been given hearts and each time I take it as my Soul’s reminder that I’m on the right path. I love the non-linear world of synchronicity. It acts like magic while validating the energetic realm of interrelated connectedness at the same time.

Jung called synchronicity a meaningful coincidence. I see it as the Soul aligning outer and inner worlds, nudging us toward a deeper way of seeing, understanding, affirming or growing. These moments feel charged with symbolic meaning—because they are full of life force. I love the non-linear realm of synchronicity so much it inspired my courses, Spiritual Manifesting-A Time To Share New Narratives. And The Secret Language of Your Soul.

🖼️ 3. Symbols, Myths & Imagination — The Soul’s Words

The Soul speaks in symbol, not literal messaging. This is reflected through the language of poetry, archetype, fairy tale, and dream. Symbols bridge the gap between the tangible and the intangible. A dream's yellow serpent might mean sacral energy is rising or moving from your ground. A poem’s runaway train may represent the power of the collective to destroy. A fairy tale’s wolf in disguise, wicked stepmother or monstrous creature portrays the obstacles our inner heroine/hero/ego needs to overcome.

To hear the Soul is to learn to live the language of symbols, rather than reducing them to the egoic conveniences of concrete definitions or matters of fact. The creative muse ignited through the imaginal realms of art, music, myth, and metaphor are not irrelevant frivolities. They are essential tools for Soul-making and our collective evolution.

💧 4. Deep Emotion — The Soul’s Longing, Grief, or Awe

The Soul doesn't just show up when we’re happy, confident or content. It often speaks through longing—those aching, undefined feelings that something more within us needs to be related to, integrated or expressed. It might rise in a moment of beauty, wonder or awe that moves you to tears, or pump your heart with arousal and attraction as it projects its way forward to the next person, place or project.

From the Soul’s perspective, feelings of grief, longing or emptiness are not signs that something is wrong. Like wonder, beauty and joy they’re often signs that something real and Soulful is trying to communicate with you.

However, by ignoring, denying or repressing the Soul’s messaging, the evolutionary energy that needs to flow through you becomes blocked, twisted and corrupt. This lack of Soul flow, especially in Western cultures, has become an epidemic, overloading physicians, therapists, healthcare practitioners and teachers with myriad maladies.

🧍‍♀️ 5. Body Symptoms — The Soul’s Energy

The Soul doesn’t ignore the body—it expresses itself through it. When you feel a weight in your chest, a pull in your gut, or an ache that refuses to go away, it may not just be physical. The Soul often speaks through tension, illness, fatigue, arousal, and as I can attest with migraine; pain. Jung believed many psychological symptoms were the Soul’s attempt to correct course. What’s being neglected? What truth are you refusing to feel?

Many of the dis-eases we are medicating for are Soul symptoms. Meaning they are presenting at the physical level as actual symptoms but they haven’t yet fully densified or manifested in the physical body. Energy densifies from pure space; we are 99.99999% pure space, into physical shape and form. At the early stages of symptomology, a shift in consciousness, belief or habit still holds the greatest power to reverse the symptoms. The older, more materialized and denser the pattern the harder it is to reverse. I believe the most powerful treatment options combine traditional biomedical models with subtle body medicine and Soulful wisdom.

🎨 6. Creativity — The Soul’s Inspiration

Most Creators I talk to don’t know where their inspiration comes from they just know when it comes. The sudden desire to paint, sing, write, dance or plant a garden is more than self-careit’s Soul-care. The Soul’s life force wants to move through you. It doesn’t want to wait for moments of perfection; it wants your unique expression. Now!

The Soul gives rise to that certain impulse that takes you to write with abandon, sculpt like mad, break out in song, grab a paintbrush or dig into fresh earth. Whatever your creative expression is you can trust it is the Soul giving rise through you to something new. It is your Soul’s evolution. In times past, this Soulful impulse was seen as a sacred expression necessary for our collective evolution. Great works of art weren’t just for the artist’s desire; they were a necessary means of collective Soul transformation. Consider Botticelli’s The Birth of Venus, Van Gogh’s The Starry Night, Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet or Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird. Art was once the Soul’s blood flowing within our collective veins. Great works of art timelessly teach us for centuries.

🌿 7. Nature Encounters  — The Soul’s Essence

A fox crosses your path. A tree speaks to your heart. The sea stirs something ancient in your bones. Nature and its elements carry the Soul’s sacred energy. Earth, water, fire, wind, the vibration of sound and the rays of sunlight are all expressions of this energy in pure form. Together, these natural elements carry a vibration, frequency or resonance that interrelates with yours. It’s the essence of macro-cosm meeting micro-cosm. Nature is where you can enter a timeless place of beauty, wonder and inspiration and experience an ancient form of communication beyond words, clocks and screens. I have a journal dedicated to nature encounters. It includes everything from the least weasel who did a dance for me in the front yard to the mother bear with three cubs who crossed our trail at a relevant time in life’s negotiations, to the flock of doves that circled our vehicle in both clockwise and counterclockwise formations.

🌀 The Soul’s Language Is Not Linear

And that makes her even more powerful, exciting and magical. We have created a world based on the narrowed streams of linear narratives and egoic conditioning. This mindset infiltrates our thoughts, beliefs, attitudes and life choices. It keeps us just shy of the Soulful life force we are seeking for the flow of our passion, power and purpose in the world.

Unlike a migraine and more like meditation, how is your Soul gently asking you for a relationship?

How Do We Create a Relationship with the Soul?

Like any relationship, we build time for honoured meeting places, real opportunities for connection, we listen with open hearts and minds and we follow up with action. This will look different for people, depending on who you are and where you are in your Soul life.

Here are some starting places:

  • Journal your dreams first thing in the morning

  • Sit, walk or hike alone in nature and let her speak

  • Allow inspiration to flow through you into form

  • Practice Notice, Name and Nurture with your emotions and body sensations

  • Pay attention to synchronistic events and develop rituals that honour this attention

  • Learn to Meditate- with Soul

  • Come to know the depth of a symbol (s) in your life

The Soul is like a sacred stone well in the center of a village. Too busy and distracted, people stopped visiting. Over time, the village forgot the healing taste of pure water. Yet the well always remains in the centre —ready—for someone to lower the bucket.

The Soul is never gone. She’s underground. She’s overhead. She’s in the subtle body and the consciousness that surrounds us. She’s waiting for you to lower the bucket into your depths.

Drink deeply.
