In the Light of a Soul Story

 A Paradigm Shift

align with your life purpose

Imagine standing in the middle of the biggest metaphysical store in the world, knowing you are being gifted anything and everything your heart desires. As you turn slowly 360 degrees, you see rays of shimmering light shining onto all of your favourite items. As though by magic, this store has everything you could ever wish for and more. There are books of every energetic system, lineage and culture dating back to the earliest times; stories of ancient ruins, otherworldly experiences and realms beyond the imagination. Ancient systems of divination are organised categorically from astrology through the enneagram, I-Ching, oracle, runes and tarot, all the way up to zoomancy, where your favourite spirit animals live. Within the vastness of every system, there is perfect order with every sub-system, sign and symbol ever in existence perfectly aligned and available just for you.

You take a deep, deep breath and let it out.

You are also being gifted endless time. All your needs are met. You can stay in this metaphysical store as long as you like, browse, sit, leave or come back. You cannot feel anything but curiosity, wonder and the fascination of your heart’s desire. The zenith of the spiritual realm in its most glorious form surrounds you in every direction.

After several hours immersed in your favourite sections, you are ready for a break and decide to leave and return the next day. After a week of revisiting the store, you find yourself back in its centre, again slowly turning 360 degrees. As though by magic, the same shimmering light shines onto all of your favourite items, only now the spectrum has more breadth. You find yourself drawn to sections you never noticed before. Sections you might have judged, avoided or dismissed now spark your curiosity and pique your imagination. As you scan the shelves lined floor-to-ceiling with every metaphysical truth known to man, you are suddenly struck with a paradox:

All these ancient systems and lineages are correct at once.

How can that be?

Shortly after beginning a part-time job at one of the largest and oldest metaphysical bookstores in North America, I, too, discovered this paradox. Every system, every lineage, every way of making sense of the Divine was indeed correct at once. I was standing in the middle of the store and panning 360 degrees when I came to this realisation. There was no one way, no best way, no right way to understand the Divine. It was as the ancient legends predicted that “God” created humans to live out the Divine’s unfolding stories in whatever ways they came. Like rays from the sun, each life story, each described system was a unique expression of the Divine journey. An expression of the Divine itself. I finally got it. No one story was better or more correct than another. Every ray, like every story, led back to the same sun’s source, no matter how uniquely, differently or outlandishly expressed it seemed to be. It had never been about which one was the correct one. That was a bunch of made-up mumbo jumbo.

It was about which expression a person resonated with, what life experiences connected that resonance and which symbols caught their Soul’s attention.

In that moment, with my conditioned brain standing down, a monumental paradigm shift occurred. Without my self-imposed limitations leading me towards a certain and specific way of viewing the metaphysical world, I felt even more inspired to learn, grow and evolve spiritually. I realised that without the acquired spiritual stories of my country, culture, community and family, there was no end to the spiritual opportunities available to me. Like many of the authors and creators who had their work in the metaphysical store, the stories that sprang to life inside me were entirely based on Divine connection in the moment those experiences arose. I could resonate with every story in the bookstore or none at all; it was ALL right; it all depended on me. The stories in me and around me were all reflections of the Divine light that shone through the creator or writer at one particular time and place.

One day, while filming for a social media post at the same metaphysical bookstore, I realised I was following the light. Quite literally. The sun was shining into the store, and every object it touched seemed to shimmer and glow. I was being led around the store by the light. After filming, I made a post that said, Where light meets a symbol and a story is where the magic lives.

The Magic Lives where Light meets a Symbol, and a Story.

Think about this for yourself. Where does your Soul’s light meet the power of a symbol? What symbols feel powerful or charged to you? Money? A Team logo? Geometric shapes? Wood in the shape of a cross? Without the life energy of Soul and story, real or projected onto any symbol, the symbol loses its power and its meaning. A symbol without the energy and story of Soul is nothing more than the paper its printed on, some simple drawings or loose coins, lines meeting at angles or two cut trees laid over one another. But infuse these symbols with your Soul’s story and watch out! Even in modern times this holds the power of heaven and hell.

Where light meets a symbol and a story is one of the most powerful places on earth.

Every day, part of my subtle body morning meditation reaches the 6th chakra. The 6th chakra, ajna or marma point, is about insight, seeing beyond the senses and light. Light is one of the many ways I believe the Divine connects with us. It’s part of my Soul story. Through my inner journey, time in nature, experiential encounters with light, watching the sky, the dancing shadows of light and dark, I’ve become so accustomed to “following the light” (literally) that I consider it to be one of the Divine’s love languages.

For people on a spiritual growth path, Divine signs and symbols guide our journey. They appear in intuitive moments, in objects, numbers, signs and shapes. At just the right time these sacred signs call to us as an expression of the Soul itself. Here are some of the signs and symbols I filmed at the metaphysical bookstore on the day I was following the light:

The All-Seeing Eye: Intention Illuminated

One of my favorite symbols is the eye—the evil eye, the dragon’s eye, hamsa, the 6th chakra or 3rd eye... I love the beauty of an eye, the light it takes in and its shape of wholeness. Since ancient times, the human eye has been regarded as the window to the Soul. Many symbols of the eye are used for protection, guidance, and blessings. When we look into our own eyes or someone else’s, we feel the power of the eyes. When was the last time you felt the power of a look? In the form of a symbol, the eye represents an all-seeing presence that perceives the intention behind every energy shift and responds accordingly.

Not all “looks” are positive or mean us well. When malevolent, ill will or dense energy (jealousy, envy, spite, revenge) moves toward us, the evil eye is intended to see it, reflect it, and return the energy to the source before it causes us harm. In a flash, the eyes can reject us, shame, or invite us closer. How we are seen by others may trigger an early implicit memory, ignite the way we were seen by our parents, caregivers, or other important people in our lives, the way we see ourselves, or even power spots in the psyche. As a reminder to myself of the intention behind the energy I receive and give, I wear an evil eye. Gently return to sender.

Spheres, Orbs & Blown Glass: The Wholeness of the Soul

Spheres, orbs, and blown glass balls have always spoken to me. I have a beautiful blown glass platter that holds marbles on my dining room table. Across cultures, these glass spheres symbolise the Soul’s wholeness—that undivided, radiant essence we each carry. Many ancient teachings and spiritual symbols point toward this wholeness as our true nature.

The ancients believed we are here to rediscover our Soul’s alignment and inner power. I tend to agree. We do this by awakening the life force within the symbols we are drawn to. By exploring what these symbols mean to us and reclaiming the energy within it. This deeper understanding and energy reclaimed is our Soul’s integration—a returning to the new meaning, depth, and wholeness we are longing for.

Books: Portals to the Soul’s Inspiration

And then there are books, possibly my most beloved symbols of all.

To a writer, books aren’t just objects.
They are portals to another time and place.
They are Divine messages of inspiration and Soul.
They are full of symbols, the power of story and Divine meaning.

At home, my books have their own docking stations: stacked beside my favourite recliner, lining my office shelves, and arranged in readable piles beside my bed. Every book is a world unto itself. Every word a symbol of the writer’s inspiration. Every symbol a ray in the Divine story of transmission.

Every night, I disappear into the stories I read. I let the stresses of my day go and lose myself in the mystery on the page. The more creative, well-done and symbolically Soul-led the pages, the better. Before bed is my favourite time to read, and it always leads me into the luminous transition of the Soul’s sacred realms of sleep and dreaming. Once I’m teleported to the land of different rules, the magic of the night takes over. I find myself flying to the most powerful ley lines, exploring sacred sites around the world, discovering ancient wells, caves, faery rings, and portals. The structure of daily reality blurs, and life opens up to the highest frequencies and purest forms of creation. Dreaming is one of the Soul’s languages. Other nights bring the darkness, the warped and weft of an off-kilter loom, wild animals scraping the earth in desperation, and disembodied energies ready to take on new shape and form in the material realm.

What books take you on a magic carpet ride? As spirits in human form, we live stories and stories live us. Imagine the stories that are living you right now.
